What's missing from the G1? FIRST TAKE

Like the iPhone did, the G1 comes to market missing a few things.

1. Open source is nice and will lead to adoption but G1 doesn't seem have the same level of application support that other platforms enjoy at the moment. This is likely to change over time

2. There is no support for editing Microsoft Office attachments. Limited Office docs viewing.

3. No direct support for the Exchange ActiveSync protocol

4. 3G support will be limited as T-Mobile builds out their network. WiFi will mitigage that somewhat.

5. No iTunes direct integration. Yes, the Amazon store is important and goes a long wayt but let's face it, iTunes is where the music is at and this device needs to be able to sync over that content for consumers easily and simply.

6. Device is SIM locked to T-Mobile, so not as open as some might have liked.

7. No tethering as a modem.

UPDATE

8. It's has no 3.5mm headphone jack. Maybe not an issue as there's no easy way to syn music or video to the device yet

Even with these issues, Google is now an important player in the mobile OS wars.
